They say there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. That is certainly true when the rainbow ends in the Rena river. Today we have som juicy reports on a Norwegian high season fishing on fire, and som fantastic photos to go with it.

Where to start? All words are in and the fishing is now at it’s very best. We have rising fish, hatching insects and happy campers all over.  Fishing and nature photographer Brant Fageraas have been out taking pictures in the Rena river, so lets start with the conditions there.

The fly that many fishermen wait for is the large mayfly – the Danica. All though Rena river is not know to have them in any numbers, it did show up sailing down the river this weekend.

“Grøftoterne” (the otters) that we mentions in the previous article have not left  Vangrøfta in Dalsbygda yet and are still going strong as the pictures suggest. A nice bottle of Cognac was opened when the long awaited Danica may fly finally arrived. Mabye not the best move when the fishing is on, but the “otters” know what they are doing. In the picture above you can see Otter Sigbjørn with a big fat hog of a trout. Caught on a Danica may fly pattern of course.

In the Glomma  river with Kvennan Fly Fishing  it is the caddis that have been the dominating insect the last few days. Most of them ar brown caddis roughly size 14. In addition the caddis, you will a good variation of mayflies. It has been some remarkable fishing where many visitors have had a staggering amount of fish. Almost 8/10 are said to have been caught on brown caddis. Some of the grayling are up to 50 cm.

Edward from Koppang Camping have the folowing to say about the conditions there: We have good conditions in the Glomma, Stor-Elvdal north and south. A bit windy last week but lot of hatching insects. The water level a bit on the low side for the time of the year, but that makes wading easy for everyone. We do get many reports from fisherman catching nice grayling and trout. We have guiding service and fishing license available at Koppang Camping & Hytteutleie.
We also have 1 place available for the Workshop Fly fishing and fly tying in the second week of September. More info about this can be found at www.koppangcamping.no. Go to the fly fishing ng section to find specific information.

He caught fish, took some great pictures, and left us this report: Very sporadic rises as it often is when the hatching is not happening, The odd aurivillii may fly came drifting down and som ended up as fish food. I still managed to pull a few fish and ended the day happy with a trouth of 1,6 kilo.
