We are in prime time when it comes to fishing and aquatic insect life now, and the conditions are good. The wind, however, seems to be a never ending irritation in most places. People still catch fish.

We are in prime time when it comes to fishing and aquatic insect life now, and the conditions are good. The wind, however, seems to be a never ending irritation in most places. People still catch fish.

We are starting off this report with a report from Borgundelva river. It has just had a online water temperature gage and web-camera mounted, and you can now keep a close eye on the conditions there. Fly fishing enthusiast and film maker Nerijus Rupciauskas and Vaidas Uselis from Black Fly Eyes films, have had a go at the river, but it was going to be a tricky weekend.

– We arrived on Friday, but the wind put a stop ti any chance of seeing rising fish. The same vind was not letting up on Saturday either, but on Sunday, after a rainfall, we found a fish rising to mayflies. It was rising some 30 meters below me, but i was gradually making it’s was up river. I gave my fly a drift down towards him at an angel, and as soon as he saw the fly he grabbed it. 1,5 kilo of beautiful Borgund-trout was in the net. (Picture above).

In Folldal municipality the many waters, and off course the Grimsa river, are having good conditions.  The wind is also an issue here, but lacal fisherman and Fishspot writer Bjørnar Hansen have had a good weekend with several trout and grayling. As the water is getting warm, Bjørnar have this to say about handling a fish. – It is getting warm now, and it’s important to keep that in mind when playing a fish and when releasing it. – The fish i had this weekend took it’s time to recover from the ordeal of being caught, and i reeled the fish in quickly to lesson it’s stress. It is important not to tire out the fish too much, and give it a long time to recover, holding its head up-stream and gently supporting the fish with a hand under it’s belly.

The Glomma river could use some rain as the river is a bit skinny. It’s actually at a normal level for this time, but it will need water. The fishing however is good, but a bit tricky with the wind being the way it is. We ahve reports from Telneset and Kvennan Fluefiskesone, and they tell the same story.

In the Trysil municipality the fishing is really on these days, with massive hatching and very active fish. Even the large mayfly Danica is now hatching in good numbers.  Gjerfloen Fly fishing  have now gotten their web site straightened out and now have their regular updates on conditions and catches.

In the Sel Municipality you will find one of the most under rated rivers in Norway, the Gudbrandsdalslågen river, more precisely in the Selsvollene region of the long river. Conditions here have been right on for weeks, but the wind have kept it’s presens and put a dampener on the fishing. Local super hero Øystein Solstad have done well at the river, regardless the poor wind conditions, and manged to lure this 1,5 kilo + fish out of the river. What is truly frustrating to this river as opposed to many darker rivers, is the fact that you can spot fish without the fish rising. I can find your self watching a fish for hours without being able ta have a cats on him.

In Skjåk the fishing is on and the trout are in good numbers many places. In fact some places have so much fish they need som fish being taken out. If you come across a lake with many even sized small fish, it’s a good thing to bring some home for the table. Bigger fish however are something we need to protect. Fishing in the Reinheimen national park is good and the license covers the part of Reinheimen that are situated in the Skjåk Municipality. 250 km/2 of waters and rivers.
