It’s time for a new update on some of what has happened in Fishspot this past week. The summer vacation is now a fact and for many, fishing is synonymous with vacation. The heat has continued and the rain has failed so there is still very low water in the rivers around in Fishspot at the moment. In most places the water is hot and the fishing might be tricky. But isn`t that some of the fun?

Kjell and Lukas Rakkenes have visited Folldal on their fishing trip and have given us this description along with the film above: “Folldal must be one of our most beautiful municipalities. Surrounded by the mountains of Rondane, Hjerkinn and Alvdal, there are som beutiful rivers just waiting for the patient fly fisherman. Even this year Ten Rivers Trip made a short stop in Folldal to make some recordings for next year’s episodes. Even though many rivers troughout the country shows high temperatures, the river temperature remains at a good level in the municipality. But with low water levels and difficult hatches, it was careful fishing for moving trout and rising grayling. This time the grayling shown to be  quite difficult. It refused all imitations bigger than size 16 hooks the three days father and son Rakkenes visited Grimsa. When we finally racked the code, we caught a lot of nice fish in the beautiful river”.

Meanwhile flyfisherman Andrè Brun has had nice days in Rena River in Åmot. “We are writing week 28 and despite low water levels, Rena is very nice,” says André Brun. “The fishing are usually good during the day with small mayflies, and in the evening, both spiders and caddis pupaes are hard currency.”

André Brun fished with small mayflies, often two in combination. And he allso managed to catha a grayling doublè! Photo: Andrè Brun.

Fishspots own “Mr. Sprutnes” allso visisted Rena River last week. He made this short video, and as one might see, there are low waters at the moment.

Meanwhile, Fishspot’s other deputies visited The mountains of Skjåk municipality  fishing an filming for the upcomming production of a presentation film. The mountains of Skjåk was absolutely amazing this week with weather and temperatures that were almost a bit much when walking with heavy backpacks. Still, there is not much that tops a hike with a fishing rod!

Fishing at sunset on quiet water about 1100 meters above sea level, with the sounds of mountain ptarmigan in the background. Wether it was lack of  fishing abilities amongst us, or the fish where just moody is hard to say. But the fishing was a difficult battle we lost. Big fish were cruising among the rocks close to the bank, hunting food. But it was only in the darkest hours of the night that the trout lost the game and fell for our flies and lures.

We have also been on a hike in Vingelen in Tolga municipality looking at some of the possibilities this beautiful area has to offer, at the border of the Forollhogna National Park.  Among other things, this cabin at Gjersjøen lake is for rental, as one of several close to good fishing waters. It is highly recommendable and it’s only a short hike in reasonably easy terrain to get there.
