We continue with stat reports from Norway and the fishing conditions. The fishing friends from “Tørt Fly Fishing” have been to Vangrøfta, and they have made this report with Simen Prestaasen.

After a long week at work we concluded that the drive from Oslo to Vangrøfta river was too much in one stretch and we decided to stop at Rena Rena Fiskecamp to pay Lars and Anita a visit. As the fish was rising in the river it resulted in a few trout and som welcomed sleep.

Arriving a the river Vangrøfta, we could asses the river to be too low, clear and difficult, but the fish and insects was there. We found fish rising to aurivilli, siphlonurus og baetis mayflies, and that is all good, but we had hopes for something else to occur. And after a rainfall it did. The biggest mayfly in Norway, the Ephemera danica, started hatching.

The following days the weather changed between heavy wind, rain and hail, followed by windows of clear sky and calm clear water with 7x- conditions. The whole specter on what the river has to offer was served within a few hours. At times the hatching was so intense that actually hooking a fish was impossible. The river was carpeted by big pale yellow mayflies, and it looked like one could walk across the river on mayflies.

We landed a good number of fish, mainly between 600 and 700 grams, but some specimens up to 1,5 kilo. We did get acquainted with som larger trout, but as with all fishing stories, they got away.
