Over the past week Fishspot have been involved in the filming of a new promotion film for the fantastic fishery they have in Selsvollene in the Gudbrandsdalslågen river. The filming have not been easy. Despite the good conditions, the hatching has not been at the best, making the film work hard. After four days of filming, with local expert Øystein Solstad showing us the good spots, the crew have now accumulated some of the best scenic and interesting moment this river has to offer. Anders Dahl Eriksen and Matt Hayes was impressed by the river with it’s uniqueness and clear water. Anders explains:

– Of  reasons science can not explane, hatching rearly occure when you bring a camera to the river. Strange really, as the conditions for hatching is good. However i think with bit of rain we will see some hatching this weekend. I have to say that this is a high quality river. You have easy access to it with, it’s full of fish and the fishing is extremely visual. Even when fish aren’t rising, you can spot them in the clear water. We saw midge, rhodani mayflies, and the odd aurivilli mayfly. It might be a little dry, but with a bit of rain, i think we will see some hatching. My tip is; slap on those polarized galsses, get in to ninja mode, and approach the river stealthfully. There is a lot more fish in the river than what you would think at the first glance.    – Anders Dahl Eriksen

In the Rena river fly fishing guide Martin Mikkelsen have been searching for big trout, and he have this report for us:  – My trip down to the river started with finding som sulphurea, rhodani and a few aurivilli mayflies. I walked up and down the river without finding steady rising fish, a few grayling was rising, but that was not my target. I was about to pack in, when i saw a good fish rising some 60 meters above me. When i get there i find three trout rising steadily, but they where not taking the mayfly duns at all. After a closer inspection, and to my surprise, i find them taking small caddis flies.  Out of the box i pull ut my favorite fly for this occasion, the Devil Bug. After about ten minutes the devil is being hit hard, and a beautiful 2 kilo trout. A good night in Rena as always.
