This is part two of the report from the fly fishing friends called “Grøtfoterne” and their trip to Vangrøfta river. Sigbjørn “the otter” had to throw in the towel due to family matters, and now they where only “two otters” left. But the two “otters” Håvard and Olav experienced the Vangrøfta fishing at it’s best. Constant hatching of several species of may flies and steady risers made the fishing really good.

According to Håvard they where still blowing 80% of their chances and still catching a lot of fish. no record breakers, but the biggest one was really close to the 4 pound marker.

With the late and cold summer, Vangrøfta can be expected to fish well even in the next few weeks. Thankfully there are rods available in case someone wants to give the legendary river a go.

Fun fact: The name “Vangrøfta” comes from the the two Norwegian words “Vang” which means grass plane or field. The word “Grøft” means ditch. Hence the name Vangrøfta, a river that snakes through the grassy fields of Dalsbygda in Os Commune. The group of friends’ nick name “Grøftoterne” comes from the the two Norwegian words for “Ditch” and the mammal “Otter” – Ditch otters.  The river is also called Skrukka, for reasons we wont get in to.

Om ikke alle spådommer slår feil så regner vi vel med at “oterne” også kommer til å avlegge en rapport på tampen av sesongen. Oternes siste fisketur ender som regel i “grøfta”.
