Unsetåa-Rendalen

The Birkeneset and Langlete cabins offer simple, inexpensive, but functional accommodation for the angler visiting Unsetåa. Many dream about being able to completely disconnect from the outside world and experience nature without distraction, and this is exactly what these cabins have to offer. With no electricity and no digital distractions, these cabins allow the angler to focus on what they came here to do in the first place. But most importantly, it is the quality of the fishing that Unsetåa offers that makes this the complete package. The season here typically kicks off between the 10th of June and the 1st of July.

Birkenset
This is a combined cabin and forest shelter. Ideally situated on the west bank of Unsetåa, this cabin accommodates 5-6 people, with a gas stove, dinnerware, and an outhouse. Locally the cabins are known as Bærskjeneset, although the origin of the name is not quite certain.

Langlete
This simple and traditional log cabin is also located on the west bank of Unsetåa at the end of a forest road in the fly fishing only zone. Here you will find a bedroom with 2 to 4 beds, a storage room and an outhouse. This cabin is about as rustic as it gets, but that is all part of the charm.

The Fishing
The fly fishing only zone is right out of the door of both cabins, but there is also easy access to river and lake fishing where all types of tackle is allowed.

The River Unsettåa
Parts of Unsetåa in Rendalen are ideal for fly fishing. The fly fishing zone is over 12 kilometers long, and is located on a varied stretch of river with deep holes, fast currents, and slow meandering sections that offer a wide variety of fishing through the forest landscape. In the middle and northern sections of the fly fishing zone are the most ideal locations for sight fishing to rising trout and grayling. The fly fishing zone is catch and release only, and since catch and release rules were put into place 3 years the average size of the fish has increased drastically. Along with the resident fish you will also find larger fish that have worked there way up the river throughout the season.

Lake Finstadsjøen
Finstadsjøen consists of both arctic char and large brown trout, with char making up the majority of the fish. This requires a different fishing license than the fly fishing zone on Unsetåa, but with this license it is also allowed to fish in all other sections of Unsetåa as well as the river Tysla in Rendalan. Tysla is a tributary to Unsetåa with shallow waters and light bottom that consists primarily of trout.

The River Nordre Renaelva
“Northern Rena River” is a continuation of Unsetåa as it runs into Lake Storsjøen. The fishing can be challenging, but those up for a challenge should know that this river is home big resident grayling and trout as well as lake run fish. This zone is also easily accessible.
