Fresh from Fishspot week 21

Flood, rain and cold weather - fishing conditions have not been the best, as i often is in early season. The week we have in front of us, however, is looking better and we are already seeing som places coming to life. Give it one more week of warm weather, and we are all in business.

Flood, rain and cold weather –  fishing conditions have not been the best, as i often is in early season. The week we have in front of us, however, is looking better and we are already seeing som places coming to life. Give it one more week of warm weather and we are all in business.

Many people are exited about the many hundreds of mountain lakes we have in Fishspot, and for the fly fishermen especially, its the mayfly “Leptophlebia Vespertina” that calls their attention. The ice on lakes at about 1000 meters above sea level have not melted yet, but are expected to do so in 7-10 days. Further down on about 700 meters the ice have been off for about ten days, and we hoped to see more action than we did.  Some Leptophlebia Vespertina” mayflies was spotted, but not in the numbers needed to make the fish kick off. The coming weekend we would recommend anyone who is keen on still water fishing for trout and arctic char to find a map and visit areas like Engerdal, Femundsmarka, Trysil and Røros.

Renaelva river is flooded, and this applies to most other rivers in the area. They are seeing som sporadic hatches but nothing substantial. The river is residing and we will se more fisg actuive this week. Glomma river, north of Rena, is high but not too bad. With a increased temperatur and reduced water level, we will se the river come to life. In Sone 5 and Selsvollene in Gudbrandsdalslågen river, it is alo flood, but this does not always affect the fishing in a negative way. The mayfly Baetis Rhodani have been hatch8ing in increasing numbers and the trout are having them for supper. This place will really kick off over the next weeks.
