Vulgata in Engerdal and “otters” in Vangrøfta
In some waters in Engerdal and the Femundsmarka national park, you will find the big lake mayfly Vulgata. Over the course of the last few days this big mayfly have started to appear. In sparse numbers now in the beginning, in the next week it will increase in numbers and this is what both the trout and the fisherman have waited for. In a small water in Femundsmarka the local fisherman Jan Lillestu showed us this yearly event. In the picture above you can see mr.Jan catch a trout.
Another trout not able to resist Jan’s Danica mayfly imitation.
Over the course of the few hours the hatch lasted, we had a total of five trout between 0,6-1,2 kilo

When you see this trout you will be amazed over the size of it (2,5 cm), and it is no wonder that the trout rises to such a snack.
Otters in Vangrøfta
Actually they are not otters, but a group of friends calling themselves the “Ditch otters”, for reason we are not going to go into. This group of friend are on their annual trip to the legendary Vangrøfta river in Os municipality. This river is a slow paced river and perfect for presenting dry flies. It’s a fly fishing only zone on the river, and it has a rod-limit of 10 rods pr. day. It’s fully booked at the moment, but later in the season ticket are available.
Yesterday we received news and a report on the conditions and fishing this magnificent river: In periodes really good hatches of several species of mayflies. The wind is a bit strong most of the day. We have had som good fish, but the really big ones have we not been able to land.” All pictures bt the “Grøftoterne”, which is the Norwegian spelling of the friends group.
