Family fishing trip to the Femund outback
The Finstad/Nygaard and Hognes family just had e weeks holiday in Femundsmarka. Eight people and a dog, with an age span from 5 to 40, a lot of considerations had to be made. The good thing about Femundsmarka in that respect is that most of the hiking is on trails. This is the name of the happy campers Sindre N. (5 år), Vårin H. (6 år), Vetle N. (8 år), Signe H. (8 år), Ingebjørg Hognes, Christian Hognes, Eli Finstad and Gudmund Nygaard.
Below you will find pictures from the trip, above a picture of the first brake.
Route: The trip started on the Swedish side of the border. Here we had boat transport to get over the Grøvelsjøen (lake) and in Sylen on the Norwegian side. The first stretch went from Sylen and inn to Grøtådalen. After two days in Grøtådalen we wnet on to Korstjønna (lakes). We spent two days there and the next goal was Røvolfjellet (mountain). We also camped on Røvolfjellet for two days, before we went on tp the last bit down to the docks on Haugen. From here on we took the ferry Femund II to Elgå. During the trip we had short trips to Krattletjønnan, Krokethåen and Roasten (lakes and streams).
The firs leg of the trip from Sylen to Grøtådalen is quite long, we had dinner on the trail.
The last bit was a bit to much fro the youngest one, but with some help carry the bags he was alright.
The first dip of the line at Grøtåa by Stormyrtjønna.
Camp established at Grøtåa. The plan was to stay there for two days to rest the kids.
The parents made their way up to Krattletjønnene. We had aboit 15v minutes of good fishimg conditions and then the north wind messed it up. We still has some rises and hooked two 1 pound trouts.
Our “feared” guard dog Tine.
If you stays on the beaten path, the trail is well facilitated for hiking.
The same goes for crossing of creeks and rivers.

The kids love jumping creeks

Trip summary
Everybody had a good trip with happy faces on both grownups and kids. The trip lasted a week and it demands a good deal of preperation and packing. We made tha right preperations regards to clothes and food. The weather was dominated by north wind witch is cold and unpleasant, but with right clothing its no problem. The fact that most of the trips legs was on beaten trails, was important especially when you have young children in the group. We did not have one incident of “I want to go home”. We had quite long stretches to walk and nver spent more than two night in one camp. This gave the kids time to rest. Its important to mention that this is kids who have been on a trip before. You don’t want to make a trip like this on a child’s first trip. The fishing could heave been better and the weather is mostly to blame for that. We recommend Femundsmarka trips for the family both for hiking and fishing.
