As the nights get longer you can experience large amounts of swimming caddis pupa, terrestrials, and dark nights which draw large trout in towards the banks. When food is served the trout are never far away.

Renaelva is well knonwn for spectacular fishing with swimming pupas. Fly patterns such as the Super pupa, Ismo pupa, Dyret (the animal), and the sømmepuppa are all great patterns which can deliver on evenings when big selective trout and grayling are blowing up on the surface.

When the evenings once again turn dark in the fall you will find the best chance at catching some of the biggest trout in Rena on pupas.

Pupas are of course also found in other rivers. On Holselva pupas can entice the biggest trout in the river to the surface. Even if the rising isn’t as intense as on Rena, here you at least know where the fish are going to be – and you can plan how to approach the fish. If there is enough water in Holselva this time of year you’ll also find big lake run fish coming up stream, which can deliver hard takes and incredible runs!

Now is also the best time for fishing with big dries right up on the banks on stillwater. With the nights getting darker the bigger fish spend more time in the shallows, and many a personal best has been set in the darkest hours of the night. The added excitement and risk involved with night fishing makes it that much more fun. Check out the lakes in Fishspot-land for good tips on where you should set your sights.
