On Wednesday May 1th, the Rena River opens, and yet again it is time for an new fishing season in this magnifisent river. However, this early in the season, You may expect cold waters causing frostbites at the fingertips and low surface activity from the aqatic insects . However, if you are willing to sacrifice your healt, treat yourself to cystitis or maybe even pneumonia, early season fishing in Rena River might still paint a pretty smile on your face. Because this is the time when the real “Hogs” is  willing to take you on.

Are you a fly-fisherman,only interested in dry-fly fishing you may want to wait a while, as the hatch can be sporadic at best this early. But if you like fishing with nymphs or streamers you get good fishing. Still, it’s probably those who fish with wobblers, Rappalas or equivalent that are most successful at this time.

Our tip to you: Fish heavy streamers or sinking Rapalas in deeper parts of the river. Are you lucky, a fight with a trout like the one Inge Rønning got on the opening day, might be within reach. That trout weighed in at wopping 7,7 kg. We would like to remind you that Rena River is regulatet, where all trout and gryling over 40 cm must be released.
