Even though we are still at the very start of the season with cold and high-level waters, we are getting some nice reports from certain places. Some early mayflies have emerged, and some stoneflies also. Here you can read about the predictions for the Rena and Trysil river, but we start in The Gudbrandsdalen Valley, more specific, the Selsvollene Flyfishing zone.

The rhodani mayfly is the first to show themselves on the waters of Selsvollene. The water level is quite high right now, but they fish are active in short periods. Øystein Enghaug Solstad from Lågen Fly Fishing  had this very nice trout this weekend.

In the upper parts of Glomma at the Kvennan Fly Fishing zone, the water level is normal for this time of the year. No big hatches yet, but the fish are there, and they do response to nymphing. However, we do expect to see rising fish there soon.

In the Hodalssjøene water system fishing now possible and grayling are to be found in the in and outlets of the many lakes.

In the Trysil river we have reports on small hatches of Marginata and Vespertina mayflies.

If you really want to get stuck into the hatching season on the Trysil river, you need to take close look at this seasonal hatching graph made by Kjell Rakkenes. Also, keep taps on his website with recent and frequent updates on the river condition.

This picture is not recent, but it’s a nice image of what the river looks like, this picture taken from a boat.

In the Rena river, we have also seen the first Rhodani mayflies popping up. Here with fishing guide Martin Mikkelsen in tight line posture.

This graph, made by legendary fly fisher Staffan Lindstrøm, depicts nicely when the different hatches can be expected in the Rena river and a pointer to what patterns you need to fill your box of flies with.

Raymond Rundshaug used his weekend trolling the Langsjøen lake. After a good number of hours spent on the water, this nice specimen of a trout on 4,8 kilo. Raymond normally puts big fish like this back, but this one was unfortunately in no shape to go back with a damaged eye.
