Jonas and Frida from Edge Flyfishing made the journey to Norway to experience autumn in the beautiful mountains of Langsua, and of course they had their fishing gear in hand. Their journey took them through Gausdal and Langsua National Park.  All photos courtesy of: Edge Fly Fishing

Upon arrival Jonas and Frida checked into Solset Bed & Breakfast, a local farm which has rooms available for rent. The location, the service, and the atmosphere all received a top score from Jonas and Frida.

The map was studied thoroughly on the way up towards the mountains.

The bulletin board along the way to the area is regularly updated with information and events. Gausdal Fjellstyre manages most of the fishing throughout the area.

The signs hint to the quality of fishing to be found in the area.

There were several others enjoying the fine weather in the mountains on this beautiful fall day.

On the first day the fishing destination was inside Langsua National Park.  They hiked 3-4 kilometers in to Nordåa River, which runs into Lake Øvre Revsjøen. This is an excellent river with good quality fishing lying at 1000 meters over sea level. They caught some small fish as well as some very nice fish. When they came down to Øvre Revsjøen they saw several large fish rising. The Nordåa river runs between two lakes, and at times the fishing here can be incredible. However, it really depends on factors such as weather, water level, and the time of year.

The day afterwards they fished in the Dokkaelva River.

They caught some smaller fish here as well.

Luckily the location and atmosphere can more than make up for the lack of big trout.

After a long day in the mountains it was a fantastic experience to arrive back at Solset to be served a traditional Norwegian dinner in the form of Spekemat (dried meats).

And sour cream porridge.

As far as the overall experience was concerned both Frida and Jonas agreed that the trip was a success. To be able to wander from lake to lake without seeing another soul is an experience in itself. The fishing spots were unique and breathtaking even though there weren’t any large fish caught on this trip. There is no doubt that there are very nice fish to be found in the area, and the low water levels in the river combined with bad luck might have had something to do with the lack of larger fish. The fishing and scenery in Langsua combined with the stay at Solset, left Frida and Jonas longing for more, and both agreed that this area must be further explored.
