Hodalen in Tolga commune is home to a series of fantastic lakes, which are perfect for wetting a line in gorgeous mountain surroundings. The Holdal Lakes (Holdalsjøene) are located at the headwaters of the river Hola, surrounded by a distinct landscape and birch forests. The river Hola runs southward through Holøydalen as it makes its way towards Langsjøen, then into the rivers Sømåa and Isteren, until it runs into the river Trysilelva.

In the Hodalsjøene lakes you will not only find trout, perch, pike, grayling, whitefish, and burbot, but very fine specimens of each of the above mentioned species. The sedimentary rock and gravel in the area make great habitat for insects, which leads to a healthy population of fish, of which whitefish are the dominant species. The abundance of whitefish in these lakes has lead to a solid population of very large trout and pike.

The lakes are easily accessible, and are ideal for both fly-fishing and spin fishing. We recommend fishing from a canoe or kayak as this will allow for access to a variety of excellent and otherwise unreachable spots. It is very easy to move via boat between the lakes Drengen, Stikkelen, and Storsjøen.

Hodalen is a great starting point for a solid fishing adventure, and for other outdoor activities within the area. It is also near to a variety of other well-known fishing areas such as the Kvennan Fly Fishing zone on the River Glomma.

If you like blending luxury with your fishing trips we would recommend a stay at the Escapade Norvegienne, known for their hospitality, cozy facilities, and fantastic homemade food! Jean Philippe Pontier is the founder, and is a popular fishing guide with a deep knowledge of the area. Marius Tollan is also a local guide who knows the area very well and will help ensure your fishing trip is a success.

Hodalen is a beautiful town in an incredible valley, which simply must be experienced… preferably by hiking, mountain biking, or canoeing between fishing destinations. You will not be disappointed by the nature here, and the history and culture to be found in Hodalen invite calm and reflection along the journey.
