The Glomma river in the area around Koppang can offer some fantastic fishing, and som every interesting surroundings. The river has a number of islands where the river splits up into multiple side streams, banks and backwash pools.

This area is teaming with aquatic insects, grayling and trout. The vading is comfortable and you can with ease move around the many islands in search for that rising fish. Fishing guide Edward Scholten have this place as one of many hot spots in the Glomma river. The licence area is not actually called the Koppang section. It is the two licence areas that consist of the lower part of the “Stor Elvdal- North” area, and the upper part of the “Stor Elvdal- South” area. This is where you will find this special topography of the river.

Fishing guide Edward Scholten made his first trip of the season a few days ago and this is what he could report:

KoppangCamp_Fishspot-8

– Last Saturday i went for my first fly fishing trip of the new season in the Glomma nearby Koppang. Beautiful warm and sunny weather caused a lot of insect activity. Although the water level was still high, with ten years living at the borders of the Glomma, I knew some good spots where it’s possible to find fish during high water.

Such a first trip of the season is always a bit of special. How does the spot look? Will there be fish? Which flies to use… So yes, I was a bit excited! Arrived at the spot I immediately saw some rising grayling. That was a good sign! The fly I knotted at the end of my fresh leader did not deliver so I took some time to sit down to find out which insects where on the menu. I saw big stone flies, small thin stone flies (needle flies) and small brown mayflies, probably the Baetis Rhodani. That was the next fly I tight at the end of the tip. A few minutes later the first fish was on the hook! A nice big and beautiful looking grayling. After that many others followed. My expectations did come true! I hereby invite all fly fishing enthusiast to visit the Glomma between Atna and Steinvik. Licenses for the Glomma and Atna are available at Koppang Camping. They will also provide you with good info about the fishing conditions and good spots. They also provide guiding service.

See you at the Glomma!
