The number of reports we have received suggests that fishing, in and around Fishspot, have been slow in the past week. Nevertheless here is the reports we have received.

Fishspot writer and photographer Bjørnar Hansen have had a great time on the Grimsa river in the fly fishing sone. Despite the “the wind blowing cats and dogs”, as Bjørnar puts it, and only with sporadic hatches, he managed to land nine grayling with the biggest weighing in at 1,4 kilo.

In the Nordre Mistra the caddis was swarming in great numbers, maybye in too great numbers as the fish was tough to catch. But with this view – who cares?

Local fly angler Roger Enger Lie have made the mountain his temporary home together with his family. And when with a grocery store miles away, it is ok to grant oneself a trout meal from nature. This trip was made to the deeper regions of Engerdal.

Fishspot ambassadeur Jon Erlend Sundnes reportedly have experienced warm weather and little wind on the Rena river.  The fishing was slow in the daytime but picked up in the late evening with caddis skating around. There was not a lot of swimming caddis pupa at night, but he did manage to find a good sized trout that was chewing down the few pupa that appeared. This is how the Rena river is in the second part of summer, hatching can be sporadic and very local, so the way to find fish is to search. When the swimming pupa is on, it means long hours of fishing into the night with trout and grayling hunting pupa in the shallows.

The mayfly is still a force that brings up big fish, and with the pulling power of the Danica mayfly – yes it’s still hatching – the trout were rising at every occasion. Jon Erlend and his companions managed to land a number of grayling, whitefish and a few small trout. Pontoon fisherman Henrik Leth have also experienced success with big mayfly patterns and you can read more about it on his blog Brakvand.com.

Fløy fishing guide Martin Mikkelsen have had tough conditions on the Glomma river with a group of swiss fishermen, but nymphing was effective and it saved the day for the happy anglers.

If anybody needs a break from the mosquitoes or the fishing itself, the cafe at the Rena Fiskecamp  offers and array of temptations and off-the-water leisure time. Rena Fiskecamp is setting up a ladies night the 26th of august with talks and activities.
